I know…I haven’t done one of these in a while but…here we go.

This is NOT what most people think of as “oatmeal” today; rolled oats, quick oats, or instant oats is NOT steel cut oats. McCann’s Steel Cut Oats look more like Grapenuts than Quaker. When they are cooked, they stay just a little bit crunchy – if you are looking for great food that is less processed than “normal” breakfast oatmeal, try this. Warning: it takes a ling tome to cook so plan carefully. I sometimes cook a week’s worth at a time and freeze it in single serving cups.

Bolthouse Farms juice and smoothies. I drink “green Goodness”, “Strawberry-Banana Smoothie” and “C-Boost Tropical Fruit Smoothie”.

I have a low zinc count (verified by blood test) and I try to avoid zinc supplements because zinc can be toxic. That leaves food sources and getting 100% of the RDA of zinc from food can be tough. Both “Green Goodness” and “C-boost” have 100% of the RDA of zinc in a one-cup serving. “C-boost” adds other immune boosters and has 1200% of the RDA of vitamin C.

I drink it plain – or use 1/2 cup of juice and fill the glass with club soda (make it fizzy) or even use the fruit smoothies in place of milk with slimfast (vanilla) or protein powder for a protein boost.
