They got a brand new dance (come on), you gotta move your muscle
Brand new dance, it's called the Cupid Shuffle
It don't matter if you're young or you're old (here we go)
We gone show you how it go (hey hey)
(...)
to the left, to the left, to the left....

("Cupid Shuffle" - Cupid)

politics, theology, life...many things can be aligned into liberal/conservative categories.

In my experienced, every single time (seriously, no exceptions) that I've encountered a person who says that they're neither liberal or conservative, they think like a liberal, vote like a liberal, talk like a liberal.

When I run across a person who says that in some ways they lean liberal, in other ways, conservative, they can point to some of those ways.

So...

1) I've found that "evasion = liberal"

I've also found that only the liberal cause is helped by changing the center.

Pick a topic...gay marriage. The political gay lobby pick a point somewhat left of center and begin calling it "center." As the leftist continue their march to the left, that "left of center" point seems more reasonable, and it becomes accepted as "center."

At which point the leftists move further left, and those on the right, **WHO HAVE NOT CHANGED THEIR POSITIONS** are now labeled "far rights" and "fringe."

"Conservatives" now become "center," in order to be avoid being viewed as "extremists" but that "center" is where the left used to be.

I've been called some pretty foul names. Why? Because I dare to suggest that people of faith should not be forced by law to participate in ceremonies that violate their conscience.

If one thinks that a Christian should be able to opt out of catering a gay commitment ceremony, they are now "bigots"

So...

2) Leftists don't want the right to compromise. They want capitulation.

I recently read a post about "New Wave Complementarianism" - looks like "old wave egalitarianism" to me. The author had made a move (and a good one, from one other of her posts I read) and adjusted her stand accordingly. But adjusting your position should mean adjusting the description you take. For instance, if a conservative begins leaning to the liberal, they should call themselves "liberal" and not try to call themselves "new wave conservative". Okay, this is a rehash of #2, only from an ethical viewpoint.

So...

3) if you call yourself "new" anything, you're probably not. Check the "old" definitions and see which one fits.

I'm not going to play "Leftist says" and move "to the left, to the left"

I'm reading "Fair Society" (at the suggestion of a liberal "book buddy" at work) and once again it strikes me that how you define "fair" makes a huge difference in how you view the world.

The opening parts of the book talks about income and power disparities and "fairness."

If "fair" means equal outcome, regardless of effort, then the world will never be fair. Those who work hardest and risk the most...will not be rewarded for their efforts.

If only the privileged can succeed, then life certainly is unfair....but...

According to Forbes, the person whose income increased the most in 2011 (the most recent year) is Mark Zuckerberg. Although he was in a family of educated people, he was hardly on the tract to billionaire.

Our current president is the son of a middle-class American woman and an African, Muslim, polygamist father. Hardly the stuff that "automatic political success" is made of.

We have free public education, but "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink." Is it "fair" to make sure that all graduate, regardless of how they apply themselves at school? Is it "fair" to the kid who works hard to see a forced success rate? It is "fair" to the one who doesn't apply themselves - to teach them that life will hand them success on a plate?

Mark Zuckerberg and Barack Obama are living proof that life in America IS "fair" - if you apply your skills, if you work hard, if you take big risks, there are big rewards.

Scripture tells us that

Let Freedom Ring

Our hope (and freedom) is not of this world...

There are likely far bigger disappointments to come than the one that dropped last Thursday. We did not choose this culture war and it is not about to leave us alone. The media, the academy, the government, the libertine elite–they may sully our reputation and shame our convictions, but they cannot steal our joy. We can pray more, sing more, and smile more than any of the party-goers making mud pies in the slums. We do not have to fit in down here so long as we fit in up there. We do not need a president’s approval if we have the affection of our King. Our hearts and our Bibles are wide open. Our salvation is firm. Let freedom ring.

60 Second Summary: The Pill: Contraceptive or Abortifacient?

The Gist: It's time to distinguish clearly---in terminology, thinking, and public policy---between contraception and abortion.

About that gun show loophole…

Just imagine… open forums where criminals, the deranged and the idle rich can wander in off the streets, plop down a fistful of cash and walk out with every weapon known to man with no background check. It’s an awful thing, isn’t it? Or at least it would be… if it were real.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
— C.S. Lewis

It's going to be in the news. Those who love liberty will be on the side of the 2nd Amendment.

Those who don't will cry out for the governmental control of weapons.

2008: President Obama said,

When you all go home and you’re talking to your buddies and you say, ah ‘He wants to take my gun away.’ You’ve heard it here, I’m on television so everybody knows it. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.

This month:

Freshman Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) expressed concern that the Obama administration was considering such a sweeping gun-control approach.

Meanwhile, Diane Feinstein has been busy:

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)–author of the federal “assault weapon” and “large” ammunition magazine ban of 1994-2004–has said for weeks that she will soon introduce an even more restrictive bill...

On Dec. 17th, Feinstein said, ”I have been working with my staff for over a year on this legislation” and “It will be carefully focused.” Indicating the depth of her research on the issue, she said on Dec. 21st that she had personally looked at pictures of guns in 1993, and again in 2012.

It seems as if she's been keeping this waiting in the wings until the appropriate crisis comes along.

Our liberties - religious, freedom of association, right to bear arms - are being assaulted by leftists.

Take action NOW. Here are the names, numbers and addresses of our elected officials in Washington. Please take a few minutes to let them know that our liberties are vital to the strength of our nation

Here's the thing...Hobby Lobby isn't asking to be exempted from providing birth control pills for their employees.

They're asking to not be forced to provide aborticients (morning after pill, "Plan B", Ella.)

Unlike a lot of (union) companies who have asked for waiver/exemptions from the whole thing, Hobby Lobby is asking that they not be forced to pay for abortion-causing drugs.

So...let's at least shoot for a little bit of intellectual honesty.

Another thing...

Co-pays. I pay a co-pay for all (ALL) of my medications. My dad pays co-pays for his insulin, heart medication, etc. co-pays will continue for thyroid meds, heart meds, pain meds, cancer meds, diabetes meds.

And liberals have their undergarments bunched up because they don't even want a co-pay for birth control!?!?

$20.00 co-pay for a life-saving drug...
$00.00 co-pay for a life-preventing drug.

They are truly more interested in preventing a life, than saving one.

And yet another

"Preventing" access to birth control...

Seriously. Do they really think that women are so helpless and dumb that if somebody else doesn't pay for their $9-$15 a month prescription, that they (women) can't figure out how to "access" it?

If women can figure out how to buy groceries, vitamins, panty hose...I'm pretty sure they can figure out how to access birth control pills.

I'm not going back. Here's a rundown of what I read and explored this week:
*
God Did it. Man Did it! Which Is It?

If I asked you who wrote the book of Romans, would your answer be Paul or would your answer be God? Both answers are true. But it's not right to give them both equal credit. Why not? Because God is the ultimate source; they are the words that He wanted written, so we must give Him full credit. And yet, Paul and the other human authors of scripture were not merely puppets on a string; they used their own words, mind, and personality in their writing. Do you agree with everything I've just said? If so, then you also have the basic framework in place for understanding how a soul is saved.

The Salvation of Babies Who Die (part one)

when I was making the move to the Reformed camp, Phil and I had dinner with a Calvin Seminary student and the question about babies was the first one I asked. This answer is a good answer.

Most Perfect and Complete - a sermon and Sola Scriptura in the Belgic Confession

Virtually every cult and false religion is founded upon the following premise: “Of course, we believe the Bible. But . . . We have additional holy books that no one else has. We receive new revelations from God. We have sacred tradition in addition to the Bible. We have an inspired prophet or leader who interprets the Bible correctly unlike everyone else.” So at the end of the day, the essence of false religion is basically this: We believe in the Bible, plus, we have an additional religious authority which corrects or explains what the Bible “really” teaches, or else supplements what the Bible supposedly leaves out.

This is a difficult post.

Our country's leaders seem unable to stop spending. President Obama said that we cannot "cut ourselves into prosperity." and yet, on an individual basis, people do it all the time. If you're in debt...stop spending and pay it off.

My son joined the "47%. Came home from college for Christmas and he's not going back. He doesn't have a job but does get SSI and Social Security benefits because of his blindness.

Our country needs to stop spending, but those who cannot work, or cannot find work...need help. (Note: Tom can work, but between school and LHON, he hasn't.

Then there's the question...when does too much help become hurting?

I don't know if I'm helping or hurting, but

1- the rule has always been if the kid is not in school full time or working...they can't live here
2- Tom is 26. He needs to get on with his life
3- and I need to get on with mine.

Our country is on her way down the crapper. We cannot keep on doing what we 're doing.

In the effort to not raise my taxes...my payroll taxes are going up and I'll talk later about my health care plan...

All in all, I'm sorry it happened the way it did...but I have to admit I'm looking forward to being an empty nester for real.
