re:  Tiger Woods and everything surrounding that mess

okay...

#1

  • we have ONE man who has slept with women other than his wife.
  • we have FOUR women who have slept with a man who is married, and who is not their husband.

Everybody get ready for the roll of the eyes and collectively say, "men are such pigs".

80% of the people fooling around here are women.

#2

  • a woman gets caught cheating and her husbands whacks her one.  Society (as a whole) tells us "there is never an excuse for violence"
  • a man gets caught cheating and his wife whacks him one.  Society (as a whole) rolls its collective eyes and says, "duh.  He deserved it."

A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is In her menstrual cycle. For example: If she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire...

No further studies are expected.

From Glenn Sacks

Here's a test.

Listen to the facts of this case.  Randy and Melissa Pratt of Pennsylvania had about $1,700 in their bank account.  One day they woke up and there was $170,000 in the same account - bank error in their favor.  So they did what any reasonable couple would do - took the money and went to Florida.  (If you said that they're incredibly stupid, you get extra credit.)  Randy said he considered the money a gift from God.

So pretty soon the law catches up with them and arrests them.  One of them remains in jail subject to $100,000 bail; the other was released from jail with no bail.

Here's your test question:  which one got the $100,000 bail and which got out of jail free?

Here's the story (MSNBC, 1/22/09).

The Afghan lawyer defending a journalist on death row in Kabul has been bombarded with death threats urging him to drop the case.

Islamic extremists repeatedly threatened to murder Afzal Nooristani after he agreed to defend Sayed Pervez Kambaksh in his high-profile appeal.

The 23-year-old student writer was sentenced to death for circulating an article about women's rights. He was tried in a closed court, and denied a defence lawyer. His case has sparked worldwide protests. (emphasis mine)

Yesterday, tiro said,

the new rumors that women are just as abusive (specifically physically) as men and maybe even more so is just a bad rumor…. which I explained further in post #6.

I would say be careful what you label as "rumor"...

While it is possible that more violent women is new...it is not rumor.   I've worked in a public high school fairly recently and in that school, the majority of physical fighting was done by the young women.

I can offer a lot of possibilities that could contribute to a "new" phonomena.  Removing dads from the picture, or relegating them to a minor role could be preventing the teens and young adults from knowing how to interact with males in a positive way.  The scarcity of male teachers adds to that absence of positive role models.

The research shows that women instigate violence as much as men and that the greatest number of violent incidents include both partners.  To dismiss the research means denying men and women the help they need (either as violent partners or victims) AND serves to continue the "women good-men bad" attitude that political feminists seek to serve up.

(My computer got rebooted - by my son - and the tabs where I had the research got closed.  I am in the process of locating them again. )

At any rate, we're packing for a long weekend in Chicago so I'm setting the comments to "all comments need to be approved"...feel free to comment, but everything is held in moderation and I'll get to it several times.

The Man Song

Ladies and gentleman, The Man Song!

He's the man. He's the man.

I don't take no crap from anybody else...
but you
I wear the pants around here...
when I finish with your laundry

Cos I'm a guy you don't wanna fight...
when I say "jump", you say "yeah right"
Cos I'm the man of this house...
until you get home

He's the man. He's the man.

When I say goes around here...
right out the window
But I don't wanna hear a lot of whining...
so I'll shut up

The sooner you learn who's boss around here...
the sooner you can give me my orders, dear
Cos I'm head honcho around here...
but it's all in my head

He's the man. He's the man.

And I can have sex anytime...
that you want
Cos I'm a man who has needs...
but they're not that important

And don't expect any flowers from me...
cos if I'm not mistaken, you prefer jewelry
I'm the king of my castle...
when you're not around

He's the man. He's the man.

And I'll drink and watch sports...
whenever I wanna get in trouble
And I'll come home, when I'm good and ready...
to sleep on the couch

Cos a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do...
and I'm gonna do what you tell me to
Because I'm top dog around here...
but I've been neutered

He's the man. He's the man!

You the man!

(something to the effect of):  but if the head of the wife is the husband, then how can Christ be her head?  She'll have two bosses?!?!?  How can this be?

Who do you work for?

- My lead teacher is Terri

No...who do you work for?

- The principal of my school is Karen

NO!  Who do you work for?

- My school is overseen by the intermediate school district.

NO!!! WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?

- GRPS.

THANK YOU!!!

~~~~~~
Who is your head at church?
- my group leader is Laura.
No, who is your head at church?
- my pastor is Ken.
No, who is your head at church?
- the board consists of...
NO!   WHO IS YOUR HEAD AT CHURCH?
- Christ.
THANK YOU!!!
~~~~~~

Point being that having a group leader does not keep Christ from being "head", any more than having a lead teacher prevent GRPS from being my employer.

At the same time, my principal is an authority figure - with real authority - who also works for GRPS.

~~~~~~
Likewise, complementarians teach that the husband is the head of the wife; a wife is to submit to her husband as the church submits to Christ.
The husband is an authority figure - but they both "work" for Christ.
Man injured after run-in with a bear.
literally.
Tim Egan, 53, was riding on Old Stage Road Tuesday afternoon when suddenly a bear appeared in front of him. Egan hit the bear and ended up skidding across the road.
"This bear looked at me with a look of terror on his face and sort of made a noise," said Egan. "I looked at him with a look of terror and we went, 'aaaahhhhh.'"
Jail visits lead to more time locked up
AUGUSTA -- As soon as an inmate from Vassalboro had a visitor at the Kennebec County jail in Augusta, he was violating a court order.
Marshall Crandall IV, of Vassalboro, was sentenced to serve nine months in jail Tuesday at a Kennebec County Superior Court hearing after he pleaded guilty to three counts of violating conditions of release for having contact with the visitor...the same woman who visited him at the jail.
The violations occurred April 5, 10 and 15, when the woman named as the assault victim visited Crandall, according to jail records.
The woman told the judge on Tuesday the domestic assault was mutual, and that she could have been charged with the same offense in the incident.
"I picked him up three or four times and slammed him on the ground," she said.
Why do I believe "wives, submit to your husbands as unto the Lord..." and stop?  Because I'm reading my own mail.
My submission to my husband (when he was alive) did not depend on him loving me as the Christ loves the church.  Reading my own mail, I see my role.
Did I confront him?  Yes.  Did I enlist the help of the pastor?  Yes.  Did I pray?  Yes.
Did that stop me from submitting?  No.
God's Word to me is still God's Word, whether nor not somebody else obeys their Word.
I remember a great turning point in my Christian walk - the day I realized that my walk with God did not depend upon my husband's walk with God.
Could I follow his lead when he provided it?  Absolutely.  I can follow my pastor's lead, but my walk is still my responsibility.
Does being my own responsibility relieve me from submission?  Not at all, rather my submission is a part of my own responsibility.
Read my own mail.
That is why I seldom write about a man's part in a marriage.  It largely does not concern me - When I write "God-stuff", it is about what things are beginning to mean to me.  Yes, I recognize the command to men and believe that a marriage requires that a husband love his wife as Christ loves the church.
But that is reading HIS mail.  I know what to look for, but in my search to grow myself, I read my own mail;  thus, most of my writing on marriage and love relationships is written from a woman's perspective, toward a woman's "mail."
I feel absolutely NO obligation (zero) to instruct men.  I'm not a man, I don't face their challenges.  It's not my mail.
